AFRICAN DRUMS EXPO (KENYA)

The African Drums Expo (Kenya) was held on 25th Nov 2023 at the Soweto Social Hall from 1330 - 1700hrs & comprised drum performances, sessions on The Art of Drum making, the advancement of African Drum Music in the formal education setup, African Drums through the Player's perspective as well as an in depth look at the Luo drums (Ohangla) and rhythms, with a keen focus on Luo Sacred rhythms.

This successful debut of the African Drums Expo now paves the way for a sustained and vibrant cultural movement. Building on the positive momentum generated by the inaugural event, the future holds exciting possibilities for the continued celebration and exploration of African percussion traditions.

The theme for African Drums Expo 2024 is: Rhythms of Heritage - Unveiling the Cultural Significance of African Percussion.

We invite submissions that explore the diverse dimensions of African percussion, from its historical roots to its contemporary expressions, contributing to the comprehensive exploration of the rhythmic heritage of Africa.

Submission Guidelines

  1. Full papers should be between 3,000 - 5,000 words, [Calibri body 12]
  2. Authors may include audio or video clips, high-resolution images, or interactive content that complements & enriches the written material.
  3. Multimedia submissions should be in jpg, jpeg, mp4, avi or webm & comply with copyright regulations
  4. All submissions will undergo a peer-review process to ensure academic rigor and relevance to the theme.
  5. Submission portal & deadline for the Abstracts will be communicated in due time.

Shortlisting

Selected papers will be presented during dedicated sessions at the African Drums Expo 2024, providing authors with the opportunity to share their findings with a diverse audience of academics, musicians, and cultural enthusiasts.

Additionally, accepted papers may be considered for publication in a special edition journal or proceedings associated with the expo.
